　　expensive　（自分の財布と照らし合わせて）品物が高い⇔cheap、inexpensive
　　high　価格、給料が高い⇔low

　◇That restaurant is expensive, but they serve excellent food.
　　　あのレストランは高いけど、美味しい料理を出すんだ。
　◇The price of vegetables is very high these days.
　　　最近、野菜の値段がとても高い
　◇The residential tax is high in this town.
　　　この町の住民税が高い。

◆安い
　　cheap　品物が安い（値段の安さと一緒に品質の悪さも暗示することがある）
　　inexpensive　品物が安い（品質の割に値段が安いことを表す）
　　low　価格、給料が安い

　◇I was lucky I could get it so cheap.
　　 　私、ラッキーだったわ。それをすごく安く手に入れたの。
　◇I stayed in lodges. It was an inexpensive trip.
　　 　ロッジに泊まっていたの。安くついた旅行だったわ。
　◇Are prices sill low in Hong Kong?.
　　　 香港はまだ物価が安いのですか？

　　high/lowは、priceやcostに関係する語が含まれていると相性バツグンなのです。
　　もう一度使い方の違いを同じ意味の英文で整理しておくね。

　　　The price of my new car was high.
　　　My new car was expensive.
　　 　　私の新車は値段が高かった。

日本語の「プライベートな質問」を英語でprivate questionと言っているのを聞いたことが
ありますが、これは間違いです。
private（公的ではない）、personal（個人の）の意味になるので、正しくは

　You shouldn't ask personal questions to foreigners when you first meet them.
　初対面の外国人に個人的な質問はしない方がいいよ。

　This is private property. Nobody can enter without my permission.
　これは私有地です。許可なく立ち入ることを禁止します。
