　　look for　探す　　
　　look up　辞書や参考書で探す、調べる
　　search　注意深く、ある場所を探す

　◇There you are! I've been looking for you everywhere. Where've you been?
　　　見つけた！あちこち探したのよ。どこに行っていたの？
　◇I looked up the word in the dictionary, but it wasn't in there.　
　　　辞書でその単語を調べたけどなかったわ。
　◇People searched the town for the missing girl.　
　　　人々は行方不明の少女を町中捜した。

　searchは forの後に捜している対象がくるので、次の２つは意味が違ってきます。
　◇The police searched her.　　　
　　　警察は彼女のボディチェックをした。
　◇The police searched for her.　
　　　警察は彼女を捜した。

◆休む
　　take a rest　身体を休める、休憩する
　　take a break　ちょっと一休みする、中断する

　◇She worked hard without taking a break.
　　　彼女は休憩もしないで、一生懸命働いた。
　◇Let's take a ten-munute break.
　　　１０分間休憩しようよ。
　◇My mother brought me a glass of milk while I was resting in the living room.　
　　　リビングで休んでいると母がミルクを持ってきてくれた。
　◇You must be very tired. Why don't you take a rest ? 　
　　　とても疲れているでしょ。 身体を休めたら？


◆乗る
　　get on　乗り物に乗るという動作を表す　
　　ride　目的地に着くまで乗る、乗っていく

　◇When my daughter got on the train she realized she had lost her ticket.　
　　　娘は電車に乗った際、切符をなくしたことに気がついた。
　◇We rode an overnight express train from Tokyo to Kochi.　
　　　私たちは東京から高知まで夜行特急に乗った。


◆乗る-タクシーや車にのる場合、乗り物が小さいので上に乗るというよりは、
　　中に乗り込むというニュアンスが強くなるのです。
　　get on　（バス、電車、飛行機に）乗る　
　　get in(into)　（タクシー、車に）乗る

　◇We tried to get on board in time.　
　　　時間内に飛行機に乗ろうとした。
　◇Get in the taxi quickly!　
　　　早くタクシーに乗って！


◆降りる
　　get off　(バス、電車、飛行機から）降りる　
　　get out of　（タクシー、車から）降りる

　◇I have to get off at the next station.　
　　　次の駅で降りないといけないの。
　◇We had a quarrel, and I got out of his car.　
　　　私たちは口ゲンカをして、私は彼の車から降りた。
　◇When I got out of the cab, I realized I had left my bag in it.
　　　タクシーから降りた時、バッグを置き忘れたのに気がついた。

◆風邪を引く
　　have a cold　風邪を引いている状態　　
　　catch a cold　風邪をひくという行為
　
　◇There you are! I've had a cold for a week.
　　　この１週間風邪をひいているの。
　◇You should turn up the heater. Otherwise, you will catch a cold.　
　　　暖房の温度を上げた方がいいわよ。じゃないと風邪ひくわよ。
